Socialism. Islamism.
And the cultural Christian's confusion.
We see in these years a strange alliance.
Socialism and Islamism find common ground - despite their obvious opposition in structure and orientation.
Islamism is a totalitarian law-religion. It demands submission. It crushes freedom, the equality of the sexes, minority rights, and every form of independent thought. When it grows, we end up with parallel societies, sharia zones, and an ever more fragmented Europe, where violence and threats become the means of power. God's word elevated to unassailable truth that at the final station is punished - with death.
Socialism is a secular, but equally totalitarian dream. It dissolves the individual, the family, sex, faith, and the natural hierarchies that carry civilisation. When it grows and plays itself out, we end up in a society without reality, without sex, without tradition, without roots - a vacuum of state control, technocratic and bureaucratic micro-management and cultural dissolution - under the pretence of "equality" and "justice" - its boundless obsession - concepts no one can any longer define when are achieved, but which are elevated to unassailable truth.
The two forces resemble each other more than they themselves will admit. Both demand submission. Both dissolve freedom. Both are driven by a bitter hostility toward what created the West - Christianity.
And in the middle of this stands the cultural Christian - blinded. With lost sense of orientation and compass.
Desire-driven by its lower needs - and without faith in anything.
It believes that Christianity's spirit, socialism's ideology, and Islamism's political law-religion can melt together.
It does not understand that when you exchange the living Christian faith with political morality and state administration, you open the door for both socialism's vacuum and Islamism's sword.
In 30-50 years, if we continue, Europe will be a continent divided in two.
On one side a socialist apparatus that - as always - has slid toward the endpoint - communism - where the state holds citizens in spiritual poverty with surveillance, censorship, and total regulation.
On the other side Islamic zones, where sharia applies, and where the old state no longer has power.
First they will exist side by side, in a fragile truce. But in the end the conflict will erupt. For Islamism is patient. It waits until it stands strong enough. It knows it has all the time in the world. And then it demands what it has always demanded - full dominance. Submission. As it always has for 1,400 years.
Europe will no longer be Europe. It will be a battlefield between two totalitarian systems - a godless, bureaucratic dictatorship and a theocratic law-religion. One will suffocate man from within - the other will crush it from without.
And in the midst of all this the cultural Christian will stand back - stunned and powerless - without understanding how it lost everything, because it confused its own inheritance with socialism's empty morality.
The result will be civil war, violence, and a continent that is no longer Europe. And where all Western-minded people who have the possibility and means will long since have left the continent.
But we can choose another path...
If we rediscover the foundation that carried our civilisation - Christ, faith, conscience - we can have a different future.
A Europe where Freedom does not mean dissolution, but responsibility.
Where Equality does not mean levelling, but dignity.
Where Diversity does not mean fragmentation, but a community that rests on a deeper unity.
For Christianity is not a prison - it is the key to freedom.
It is not the burden of the past - it is civilisation's soul.
It is not the opposite of truth - it is truth itself.
It is only there, in faith in Logos, that man can stand free - and simultaneously connected - without falling (into the hands of either socialism or Islamism).
The choice therefore stands before us.
A Europe reduced to ruins, where two totalitarian forces fight over the ashes.
Or a Europe that finds its way home again - strong, free, and alive, built on the stone that can never be moved.
