The Battle Is Over Who Gets to Describe Reality

So the summer holiday is over, and it's back to The Great Work - to build yourself, the patterns and structures you live within, so wise, strong and beautiful that they find a natural harmonic resonance, weaving Man and his Reality together into deep meaning and connection.

But holidays have a way of doing something to your language. You put the words down for a few weeks, and when you pick them up again, there's one of them that no longer fits in your hand.

There's a word I've stopped using.

The culture war.

Not because it's wrong. But because it's too small. It sounds like something that happens in the debate sections of newspapers, between people with opinions and plenty of time. Something you can follow a bit, or not. Something about statues and songs and what you're allowed to say both in the canteen and at the meeting at work..

And while you think it's about culture, you miss what it's actually about.

Culture is just the surface. Wallpaper. What the battle leaves its marks on, so you can see it.

What's actually going on lies a layer deeper.

What we're in is much better described as -

The Battle for Reality.

And it's about one single question - who has the right to describe it? Who decides what things are called, what exists, and what you're allowed to see together with others?

You've already felt it. EVERYONE has.

You felt it when you were asked to answer what a woman is, and could feel that the right answer had become the wrong one.

You felt it when a statistic changed its name because it showed something it wasn't allowed to show.

You felt it when words you've used your whole life came back from some Municipal, Media or HR office with new content.

Or when you stood before something anyone could see, and discovered that the very act of seeing it - had become the problem.

These aren't random episodes. This is the front line. It doesn't run through a parliament, the Folketing or along a border. It runs through language, through schools, through screens - and finally through your own head, at the place where you decide whether you believe most in what you see - or what you're told you should see.

To understand what's at stake, you have to understand what it is we've had here in the Western world. Because it's not a given. It's the most extraordinary arrangement in human history.

The West was built on a claim so radical that we've forgotten it's even a claim - that Reality is created, ordered and knowable. And that Truth therefore cannot be constructed, but only discovered. That the Law binds everyone, including the King. And that every single Human being carries an Image that was placed in it from the Beginning, and therefore can never legitimately be made into means, material or mass.

This has happened in a single place in all of humanity's Story - HERE!

Notice what the three things do together.

They move the right to define reality away from Power.

In almost all other orders humans have lived under, reality was what power said it was. Pharaoh was god. The Emperor was the law. The one who owned the sword owned the description.

The West is the place where that was broken - where the King came under the Law, the Law under Truth, and Truth got a source that is higher than any throne. No one owns Reality here. Everyone stands under it. That's why science arose precisely here. That's why power can be criticized here. That's why a peasant could look a king in the eye and say - "hello, what you're saying there, that's not right. And now I'm going to tell you why".

It's that arrangement that is now under attack in this time.

Not from one front. But from two.

The first came from within, and it's old enough to have long hair in its ears. About a hundred years ago, a school of thought began to take shape - in prison cells and reading rooms - among men who had made a discovery: The West couldn't be defeated by force. It was too strong, too rich, too victorious. But it rested on something no one guarded - its description of reality. And if you could conquer that, you'd never need to fire a shot.

So that's what they set about doing. Not by attacking the description head-on, but by patiently installing three new ideas beneath it.

The three ideas are -

1. That Truth is really just power in disguise.

2. That Language doesn't reflect the world, but creates it.

3. That Man is not created, but constructed - meaning nothing was placed in it from the beginning, no nature, no Image, only what time and power happened to shape in it. And what has been shaped can be reshaped.

And notice what the three ideas do, if you believe them - then there's no longer anything to discover, only something to adopt and decide. Then all words are weapons. And then whoever conquers the words conquers everything.

From there, the rest followed naturally.

The long march through the institutions - the universities first, because that's where words become. Then the media that carries them out. The administration that turns them into rules. The schools that turn them into children's learning. The churches. The HR departments. And not with swords. With definitions - that turned the Western human's conscience against itself if it didn't follow them.

And understand one thing about the people who carry it - they don't believe in nothing. They believe in power. That's why they're so preoccupied with what you say. And you know that's how it is, because NO ONE fights for a hundred years over words they think are meaningless and empty.

The second front came from without, and it has never doubted anything at all. At all!

A fourteen hundred year old order that is complete in a way we can barely imagine - law, faith, family, state and language woven together into one system, where no area of life lies outside, and where the question of the right to define was settled long before it even met us.

In its eyes, Reality is what Revelation says.

The description was delivered once and for all, complete and sealed, and Man is not placed in the world to investigate it - it's placed in the world to submit to it. The very word the Order calls itself means - submission.

That's why it doesn't need any march through institutions. The first front had to fight its way to its description of reality because it was new and had to be installed - this one came with its own finished and has carried it unchanged through all the centuries. It doesn't need to conquer the words, because it has never acknowledged others' right to them. It doesn't need to convince anyone, and it's never been in a hurry. It needs ONLY time, patience and an opponent who has forgotten what he himself believes.

The two fronts disagree about almost everything. But they agree on the only thing that matters.

That Reality is not shared.
That it belongs to someone.

And now see what is offered instead of the old arrangement.

A Human that is no longer carried by an Image, but assembled from categories - gender, skin color, group, position - and judged by what it is, not what it does. A truth that is no longer discovered but adopted, and which therefore must be guarded by ever more words you mustn't say, and ever more things you mustn't see. A conscience that no longer dwells in the chest, but in a ruleset, a report, a camera. And a Lie that is no longer a flaw in the system - but the very glue in it, the daily little confirmation of descriptions everyone knows are false, as the price for being allowed to be left in peace.

That's the first front's offer.

The second's is the opposite - and you have to give it that it has never hidden it. It offers a finished world. An order where all the big questions have been answered once and for all, where the law lies fixed over Man's head instead of dwelling in it, where doubt is not a path to Truth but a crime against it - and where Man doesn't carry an Image with freedom and responsibility, but is placed in the world to submit.

It's not dissolution.
It's the exact opposite.

And that's why it grows in precisely the void the first leaves behind - because a Human who has lost its foundation will finally choose any foundation over free fall.

Dissolution offers Freedom without Foundation.

Submission offers Foundation without Freedom.

The West was the place in the world - the ONLY PLACE IN THE WORLD - that insisted on both.

So it's not a new cultural view that's being offered.

It's A DIFFERENT KIND OF HUMAN.

But before it gets too dark, let me point here to what they've both overlooked. Because it's not a detail.

Reality is not one of the parties in the battle over it.

Reality doesn't negotiate. It has never read the manifestos. The queue forms regardless of what the price is called. The boy doesn't become a girl because of a circular. The concrete block stands where it stands and says what no speech may say. You can conquer any description of Reality - but you cannot conquer Reality, and THAT'S WHY any false description must be maintained by force, every day, forever.

That's its weakness.
The Lie must be guarded around the clock.

Truth just needs to be said once.

ONCE.
That's enough.

Then Man recognizes it.

That's why this battle isn't decided by majorities, parties or platforms. It's decided in the individual Human, at the quiet place where you decide whether you will repeat a description you know is false.

Each time someone refuses - kindly, calmly, without hatred - a boundary suddenly stands in the world that no definition can move.

It has been decided that there must be a fight over Reality.

Good.

It has never lost.
And it certainly won't with you and me on its side.

Just stand firm on it, my friend - regardless of what the Man on Television, the Woman in the Party, the Holy Hypocrite, the Expert Rule or Mr. It'll Be Fine says. ❤

Really good Wednesday.

And get yourself down here to train, so your hunched banana posture can let go in your spine. It doesn't suit you.

You are Human.
Upright.
