I am beginning to realise - more and more - how deliberate and targeted the distortion of Charlie Kirk is.
Like everything else now.
And I don't like it.
Because these are not accidental misunderstandings - this is a strategy.
I see people trying again and again to explain or provide context for quotes that have been ripped out of context, but those spreading the hatred couldn't care less. It's as if they NEED to hate him. They WANT to hate him. Because the hatred gives them a feeling of moral superiority - even though that entire feeling rests on outright lies and distortions. Some of it bordering on clinical material.
The strange thing is that many of the voices now shouting loudest - including our own media - have never spent two minutes actually listening to what he says. They've never actually spent half an article's worth of time on him. But suddenly - out of nowhere - they classify him as an extreme figure, someone to be distanced from at all costs.
As they did with Trump, who went from being a beloved media darling to Hitler - almost overnight in 2015.
As they did with Tommy Robinson, who for years has been reduced to a symbol of hate, when he pointed to Pakistani grooming gangs raping thousands of British underclass girls, because it didn't fit into the story of romantic multiculturalism.
As they did with Jordan Peterson in 2017 - when he said no thank you to compelled speech and living on his knees for a lie.
As they did with Musk from 2020 - from being the world's beloved lifeline - when he challenged the wrong interests.
As they have done with every voice that challenges the "permitted narrative" - and who must therefore be demonised before they are even heard.
But why?
What makes the need to demonise so strong? Is it because we have created a culture where listening, understanding and nuancing has been replaced by an urge to shame and reduce people to caricatures?
Is it because many feel so empty inside that they can only find meaning by positioning themselves as 'the good ones' - by pointing out others as the evil?
If that's the case, and we have reached that point, we face a far greater danger -
If we accept that people can be reduced to caricatures, and that their words can be distorted without consequences, then we accept in practice that Truth no longer matters.
We accept that Lies can become reality, if only enough people repeat them loudly enough.
And if that's how we want to treat each other - with constant demonisation, without the will to hear what is actually being said - how on earth do you imagine we will ever be able to have a future coexistence, where people with different views can live side by side?
If we systematically accustom ourselves to hating, instead of understanding, what are we actually building our community on?
Because ultimately the question doesn't end with Charlie Kirk - but with ourselves.
Do we want a society where reality and lies have been swapped around, where shaming takes precedence over truth, and where future coexistence becomes impossible?
Or do we want a society where Truth still has value - even when it challenges us?
Think. Harder than you ever have.
