You begin somewhere outside the centre. A post about European economics, a UN meeting, an article about refugee policy - where Israel is mentioned in a sentence, in parentheses, almost by chance. And yet. The comment thread is there. It is always there. As if it were waiting.
You scroll. You try to understand what it is you are seeing. And it does not get easier.
Jew-hatred repeated everywhere across everything we normally use to distinguish people from one another - nationality, ethnicity, gender, age, religion. The young Danish student and the middle-aged Turkish man and the Belgian pensioner and the British activist write in practice the same thing, with different wording, with different levels of information, with different pretexts - but what moves the hand is the same. You feel it before you have formulated it.
And this is where the numbers become uncomfortable. The oldest hatred in the world is not a remnant. It is not something that is dying out. It is growing. It is growing fastest in Europe. And it is not isolated to certain environments or certain backgrounds - even though the Islamic bias is naturally and expectedly the most pronounced, and even though you only reveal your own dishonesty by not saying it aloud. It is what it is.
But what is truly hard to stand in is not just the growth. It is the disguise.
In the 1930s the monster carried the torch high and openly. Today it wears a hundred veils. It calls itself analysis. It calls itself pro-Palestinian solidarity, anti-imperialism, resistance to apartheid, humanistic concern, informed criticism, moral obligation - all sorts of nonsense so as not to say what it wants to say directly. And there are quite certainly some of these veils' bearers who actually believe it themselves. They do not see that they have arrived at the exact same conclusion about the exact same people by a hundred different routes, and that that pattern in itself is information. The Lie does not need to lie about everything. It only needs to use truth strategically to arrive at the place it always wanted to go.
What is happening here is so disgusting.
And we, those who see it - we have an obligation now.
Not in ten years. Not after the next election. Not after it is too late. NOW! It does not require that you are an expert in the Gaza conflict or UN resolutions. That you know 3,000 years of theological history in detail. It requires ONLY willingness to say aloud, clearly and without wrapping it up - this is Jew-hatred. This is not criticism. This is the oldest hatred in the world dressed in new clothes. And shine a light on it.
I see it.
I see you who spread it.
And I do not like what I see.
And to the rest of you.
Silence is not neutrality now.
Silence is a position - and only one that benefits the Lie.
A monster only rises because good people chose to look the other way. We are at that point now.
And those who remain silent, choose.
