The city falls after eighteen months of siege, and in three days the RSF militia kills over 6,000 people. UN investigators afterwards use a word they almost never use - they write that it bore "the hallmarks of genocide".
Genocide.

No.
Me neither.
So let us count, slowly and carefully.
Syria - around 600,000 dead.
Yemen - around 400,000.
Sudan - somewhere between 150,000 and 400,000. And the number is growing while you read this.
Iraq - several hundred thousand civilians.
Afghanistan - around 200,000.
Nigeria - up towards 350,000 in the Boko Haram war.
Four out of five Christians who were killed for their faith in the ENTIRE world last year were killed precisely there. In Nigeria.
That is millions of people.
The vast majority of them Muslims, killed by other Muslims.
And the streets in Europe were empty.
Gaping. Empty.
No tent camps at the universities for Aleppo.
No boycott lists for Yemen.
No artists required to take a position on Darfur.
No flags on the balconies for El Fasher.
One conflict - which in number of dead does not even come close to a single one of the above - has on the other hand filled front pages, streets and general assemblies for two years.
Let me tell you why.
Because the world does not count bodies.
Not at all right now.
And not at all here.
It counts perpetrators.
And the test has already been run.
Not as a thought experiment.
No, in reality.
A state gassed its own, starved cities out and killed half a million - and not a single shopkeeper or supermarket chain felt its Syrian dates.
If the outrage was about the action, Damascus would have filled the streets at every opportunity for ten years. But it did not.
It was about something else.
If your compassion switches on and off according to WHO is holding the weapon…
Then it was never compassion.
Then it was something else.
You can help each other find the word for it.
The sum is the same -
If Israel were Muslim and the same took place - which it does all over the world, just on a far greater scale - then we would not hear a single peep about Palestine.
