Today I turn 51. 🇩🇰
And when you reach this point, you discover that there is no longer time left to hide.
You discover that life is short, happiness fleeting, truth costly - and freedom and love worth fighting for.
So one must step forward clearly.
Stand in the light. And speak truly - even when it is not popular.
So here is my answer to a question I often get -
"What do you need something as old-fashioned as Jesus and Christianity for, if you're not going into the state church and sitting down, Thomas?"
And I understand why some wonder.
Because I don't look like the typical churchgoer in 2025 - and some days I think I might be the most peculiar and unlikely champion for the faith, Christianity, sound conservatism and the Denmark I grew up in.
But here I stand - in the middle of it all, with a particular set of abilities and observations - and I do what I can with what I have been given.
Because it is completely visible. If a recognisable Denmark is to endure - something must be done.
So allow me to answer the question.
For many, Christianity equals the church building, the pulpit, the hymns, folded hands, communion - and the feeling of guilt and inadequacy. And that can be deeply meaningful for some.
But for me it is only one of many places where God can be met.
Jesus did not come to establish a church of bricks - or to make me sit nicely on a bench one hour on Sunday. He came to open a living kingdom inside me - a kingdom that cannot be locked in by bricks, rituals or offices.
The church can be a place one meets Him. And the like-minded. But it is not where my faith lives.
My Christianity is not a spectator sport.
It is lived - in everything I do.
When I speak the truth, even when it costs.
When I take up my cross and walk into resistance instead of hiding.
When I let God's Spirit lead me, rather than bending to the Spirit of the Age.
And I meet God in all that He has created.
In the light over the sea. In the rhythm of the seasons. In a newborn child's gaze. In the music that lifts the soul. In a human being's will to create beauty or speak truth.
I see Him in the great cycle, where everything hangs together with a wisdom we only understand glimpses of.
And I feel Him in our ability to create - not as owners of creation, but as imitators of His art, His order, His abundance, His Mark of Beauty.
I do not need an altar to worship.
The whole world is God's temple.
I do not need a pulpit to hear His word. It stands written in scripture, I hear it in the wind, and I feel it inscribed in my heart.
My Christianity is both outer and inner.
It is in my work, in my relationships, in the struggle for the good and in resistance to the false.
It is in the study of the Bible - and in the understanding of its deeper layers, symbols and mysteries.
It is in the stillness, in prayer, in the esoteric work of cleansing consciousness, so that God's image in me can emerge more clearly.
For me Jesus is not just a historical person I remember. He is the living Logos - God's word and wisdom. The Spirit that illuminates, heals and guides.
To be Christian is not to sit on the right bench, but to let my life be a temple where He can dwell. With all the responsibility for my own inner and outer that thereby follows regarding mental and physical health and wholeness.
Because Faith is not a membership.
It is a covenant.
Jesus never said - "Follow me - but only within these walls."
He said - "Follow me" - and went out on the street, up the mountain, out in the boat, into the darkness, to those no one else would touch.
Read that sentence again.
Yes, I respect the church when it proclaims the gospel purely. But I have seen too much of the institutional version of Christianity, where the Fire of the Spirit is traded for political correctness, and the Sharpness of Truth for soft platitudes.
That is not where I find Him.
So what should I - or you - use Jesus and Christianity for?
Everything, is the answer.
Because it is like asking: "What do you need truth for?" - or "What do you need Light for in a dark room!?"
To see. To understand. To act rightly.
To carry me through the darkness.
To know who I am, and whom I am accountable to.
To expand my consciousness, so I stand in accordance with the eternal, the true, the holy.
I do not go to church to have a faith…
I have a faith - therefore my entire life is church.

….
And yes - I suppose I had better write "ADVERTISING" somewhere here, since the t-shirt I'm wearing is part of our own global brand and movement The Word, which we are rolling out across Europe and the USA.
As the remembrance awakens, and the awareness of where we came from - and whom we come from - rises (again) like a tidal wave in the ethnic populations.
MAKE JESUS GREAT AGAIN! - as a friend would say.
