MAMDANI'S IDENTITY
American, Socialist or Muslim first?
After thinking about Mamdani's remarkable choice and position, I've spent the week pondering a question I've touched on before -
How one can stand on a platform that rests on Marxism's godlessness, its mockery of man's need for faith and transcendence - and simultaneously declare oneself a believer?
Marxism is built on the assertion that religion is an illusion.
Christianity is built on the assertion that truth is revealed.
These are - at bottom - two incompatible magnitudes.
Still, I can understand that a modern Western person, who rarely thinks their positions and convictions through to the end, can imagine they can stand with one foot in each camp.
Because we live in a time when the Western world has lost its centre and stumbles around snot-confused in a construction without logic. It no longer really knows who it is.
But it's not like that in the Islamic world.
Islamic civilisation is not in doubt about its identity. It's not in doubt about its truth. It's not in doubt about its theology, its hierarchy model or its goal.
And precisely because it knows who it is,
it insists on dominance, submission and complete loyalty. It stands firm and doesn't weave, waver or move.
This leads me to a series of questions I want to ask openly - particularly to those of you who are learned in Islam, in Marxist theory or in political philosophy.
How can one believe in Islam and stand on socialism simultaneously, without the two systems' structures cancelling each other out?
Marxism ridicules Allah (God) - while Islam is structured from outermost tip to deepest root in the belief in Allah?
My questions spring from a series of positions which - to me - are mutually incompatible. I can't see how they can exist in one and the same person, or how one can position oneself politically when both demand complete loyalty and exclude each other.
Help me understand.
I. TRUTH & AUTHORITY
If Islam says that Truth comes from God and is unchangeable, eternal and cannot be adjusted by a comma - but socialism says that truth is a social construction and can be rewritten politically and voted and decided differently at any time -
How can Truth then be both absolute and relative?
How can one simultaneously believe in:
"Truth is revealed."
and "Truth is negotiated."

II. LAW & MORALITY
If Islam teaches that morality and law come from above (from Allah/God), and socialism teaches that morality and law are created from below (by the State, the Revolution, the Proletariat) -
How can Law then have to submit to both God and the state?
And if the two disagree - which they do in an infinite number of ways - to whom does one surrender?
Explain.

III. FREEDOM & SUBMISSION
Islam defines Freedom as submission under God.
Socialism defines Freedom as liberation from God.
How can Freedom both be to bow abyssally deep to one's essential root - and to free oneself completely from all rules, dogmas, laws and structures outside oneself?

IV. GENDER & FAMILY
Islam teaches that man and woman are created as two fixed categories with God-given roles.
Socialism teaches that gender is a social construction, and that traditional gender roles are a mechanism of oppression.
How can gender both be given by God and invented by society?
And how can patriarchy - which in no culture is as visible as in Islam - both be a divine order and a structure that must be revolutionised and destroyed?
Explain.
V. RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
Islam teaches that it's wrong to leave the faith (apostasy) - to such a degree that we in a peaceful country like Denmark have organisations that, in the same way as when deeply criminal people must leave gang environments, can receive protection, change of identity and anonymity to be able to continue life without interference, threats or violence.
Socialism teaches that religion - that is, belief in Allah - is opium, and that society should be freed from faith, church and mosque.
How can one both believe that religion must be protected against any form of deviation - and that religion, that is, belief in Allah and mosques - must be dismantled?
How can religious freedom both mean -
Freedom to convert and prohibition against converting?

VI. CRITICISM & TOLERANCE
Islam teaches that blasphemy is unacceptable and must be punished - to such a degree that some pay the highest price for this transgression.
Socialism teaches that everything can and should be criticised - especially established religions. To such a degree that many studies in the Western world now begin with the word "critical" followed by some mumbo-jumbo or other.
That aside.
How can one be for total freedom of expression and simultaneously be against any form of criticism of Islam?
How can one demand tolerance from others and simultaneously refuse criticism of one's own belief system?
Explain.

VII. IDENTITY & WORLDVIEW
Islam divides the world into two fundamental zones -
Dār al-Islām - areas that are already subjected to Islamic law.
Dār al-Ḥarb - areas that are not yet subjected, and therefore are "the house of war".
So - The world is divided according to faith and submission.
Socialism divides the world on an entirely different axis -
Oppressors - bourgeoisie, capital, tradition, authority.
Oppressed - proletariat, minorities, revolutionary subjects.
So - The world is divided according to class and power relations.
Now.
How can man's identity simultaneously be defined by faith's struggle against the unbelievers, and by class's struggle against capital and those who demand its submission?
How can the world both be divided into -
"areas that have submitted to Allah's law - and areas that must be subjected"
and
"oppressors who must be toppled - and oppressed who must be liberated"?
If Islam demands mission and submission, and socialism demands revolution and liberation - how can one believe in two systems that both demand global dominance but are built on two opposite truths?

VIII. RIGHTS, WOMAN & BODILY AUTONOMY
If Islam teaches that woman's body and sexuality is something that must be controlled to protect the honour of family and community - and socialism teaches that woman's body and sexuality is her own and must be freed from all forms of norms -
How can woman's freedom both be to submit to a God-given order, and to free herself from any form of authority? (Especially the patriarchal)
If Islam says -
"The man is the woman's protector and leader."
(Quran 4:34, classical understanding)
and socialism says:
"All hierarchies are oppressive and must be dismantled."
How can hierarchy both be divine order and oppression?
If Islam teaches that sex is only permitted within marriage, and socialism teaches that sexual liberation is a political struggle -
How can sexuality both be something that must be disciplined, and something that must be liberated?
If Islam teaches that woman's chastity is a collective concern, and socialism teaches that woman's body is her private property -
How can woman's body both belong to the community (to protect honour), and the individual (to protect autonomy)?
How can something be holy and hidden, and simultaneously liberated and manifested?
Explain.

I have more questions - but answers to these will suffice initially.
I ask because these axes make the two ways of arranging and orchestrating one's thinking impossible to unite -
How can one serve two masters who both demand total loyalty - but give and lead to opposite truths?
