There is an assumption in our time that is fundamentally wrong.
The same assumption that both media and entertainment industry made in their Excel analyses of Man.
It is repeated that you must write short - if you are to have any chance of being heard and taken seriously.
The media clipped their content down until it lasted hysterically few seconds - their debate programmes so that no one managed to finish a thought or a sentence. Soundbites in news that were at best meaning-distorting. At worst lies.
But none of it is true.
It is true ONLY if what you bring forward contains no more than those seconds can carry. And that is true - for only few have a depth that reaches further.
Man has sat for hundreds of thousands of years around a fire listening to the Old Ones tell stories - throughout life. Taken in information through the ears. Created images on the retina. Conjured inner Narratives that created the reality and truth it lived in.
That was why we listened to the Old Ones - those who had been here long enough not to fall for the easy narratives.
That is why the longform podcast medium - which now has hundreds of millions of regular listeners - worked, even though the analyses insisted that no one could hold attention for more than seconds. But we can. And we do. If we sense that a Human Being has appeared in the words being told.
Man is a complex structure - the most complex we know of. And we do not lack the ability to take in.
We lack human beings who have depth enough to carry conversations, presence, intimacy, boldness and reflection enough that they are worth listening to for longer.
And that is something else entirely.
Search for those who can do that. The Old Ones. Those who have thought longer and deeper than the box we are placed in. There is something about that quality that nourishes something inside you, that makes your faith in Life grow of itself.
